Brent Miller serves as Director for Investigations and Internal Affairs at Indiana University, overseeing the IU Police Department’s investigation and professional standards divisions across all campuses. He advises the Superintendent for Public Safety on criminal investigations and reviews all internal affairs cases and background investigations.
Brent’s law enforcement career spans nearly three decades, including leadership roles with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, where he managed internal affairs and detective squads. Brent has completed advanced training through the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, Southern Police Institute, and other professional programs, and has delivered presentations on internal affairs, investigative practices, and media relations. Bruce A. Smith is a seasoned law enforcement professional with over two decades of experience in criminal investigations, digital forensics, and leadership development. Currently serving as Lieutenant of the Cyber Crimes and Digital Forensics Unit, he oversees Internet Crimes Against Children operations, manages state and federal grants, and liaises with prosecutors and tech vendors. His career spans roles in homicide, child abuse, sex crimes, and patrol, with a strong emphasis on policy development, training coordination, and interagency collaboration. Smith has also contributed internationally, instructing Armenian National Police through the U.S. Department of State, and remains a dedicated mentor in IMPD’s Leadership Academy.
David Everman is a veteran law enforcement professional with over 30 years of experience, currently serving as an investigator in the IMPD Office of Internal Affairs. He is an Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board Primary Generalist Instructor and has delivered training for IMPD In-Service, Basic Detective School, Homicide and Major Felony School, Recruit Training Academy, and Indiana University Police Department. His career includes extensive investigative work in homicide and sex crimes, with more than 500 sexual assault cases handled. Everman holds certifications as a Field Training Officer, Standardized Field Sobriety Tests/DUI Detection Instructor, Breath Test Operator, and has served on SCUBA and Honor Guard teams.
